New York Jets Rumors: Darrelle Revis, Dee Milliner Favored After Antonio Cromartie
Cromartie apparently isn’t going all out for whatever it is that training camp has become under the 2011 labor deal, which reduced the number and intensity of preseason practices.
Perhaps that is why Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie isn’t to keen on explaining why he is getting burned regularly in practice.
“As far as I know, I didn’t think it was serious”, Bowles said. “Two-a-days was fun. It weaned out the guys that was not mentally strong”.
Todd Bowles said if Wilkerson doesn’t practice on Wednesday, he probably won’t play against the Falcons. “You work on certain things and you try to work on your weaknesses and go from there”. ‘He’s still got some work to do. “I’m not anxious about it. It’s practice”. It would make sense for a veteran like Cromartie who is already familiar with the Bowles system and his secondary partner in Revis to not need the reps so much for gaining confidence, but rather looking towards marginal improvements in his cover ability.
Still, some fans and media have wondered if Cromartie might have lost a half-step – or, more – since they last saw him in New York. He’s just got to hone in on his technique.
“I’ve seen progress”, Bowles said of Wilkerson’s injury.
Bowles disagreed with the idea that Cromartie has not performed well in camp. Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and the first-team offense played only one series, while the first-string defense was on the field for only two possessions.
Bowles, now his head coach, won’t concede that it has been a struggle to date. Wilkerson did not practice again due to a hamstring injury.
Whether or not they can recapture that magic remains to be seen, but what you can’t deny is what Cromartie brought to the franchise his first time around, with 13 interceptions during those four seasons.
The Jets have all the hay in the barn, for the most part, entering Friday night’s second preseason game, against the Falcons at MetLife Stadium. “He may play a little bit with the ones”.
