Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor willing to take his holdout into the
Chancellor’s holdout is approaching the end of its third week.
Kam Chancellor has reportedly doubled down on his desire to see his deal re-worked.
Kam Chancellor’s holdout with the Seahawks is nearing its fourth week, drawing into question whether the three-time Pro Bowl strong safety is willing to miss the beginning of the regular season. With FS Earl Thomas still rehabbing his shoulder injury, Chancellor isn’t entirely without leverage, but he’s unlikely to earn anything other than a ceremonial raise or token guarantee.
“Nothing has changed. He will not report without his contract being addressed this season”, said agent Alvin Keels. The team and I have been in contact, but we haven’t been able to agree on any compromise.
The 27-year-old stands to make a base salary of $4.55 million in the 2015 season. He signed a four year contract extension with the Seahawks on April 23, 2013 worth $28 million with $7.825 million in full guarantees upon signing and a total of $17 million guaranteed.
Though teams have the option to fine players up to $30,000 per day for missing training camp, ESPN.com notes that the Seahawks did not fine running back Marshawn Lynch when he held out last summer.
If the holdout reaches the regular season, the fines get steeper.
These reports about holdouts in the middle of training camp are really ridiculous.
Defensive end Michael Bennett, who also has three years left, was vocal this offseason about wanting a new contract. Of course, as we’ve said all along, the Seahawks may fear setting a precedent with Kam more than the thought of playing without him or forcing him to become disgruntled.
