Meryl Streep, Sam Mendes And James Corden Among First British Academy
“Bafta LA is proud to honour Meryl Streep’s chameleonic genius, Sam Mendes’ creative force and James Corden’s entertaining ingenuity at this year’s Britannia Awards”, said a statement from the organisation.
Additional honorees will be announced at a later date.
At the annual awards ceremony, Streep will claim the Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence in Film.
The 66-year-old actress will be presented with the Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence in Film at the prestigious event, following in the footsteps of a flurry of world-renowned actors including George Clooney, Tom Cruise and Robert Downey Jr.as well as directors Clint Eastwood and Steven Spielberg. Past recipients include Mike Newell, Danny Boyle, Christopher Nolan, David Yates, Quentin Tarantino and Kathryn Bigelow.

Mendes recently directed his second James Bond film Spectre which opens on November 6 stateside. The award is named for the great British director. Corden has had a successful year in the wake of taking over the hosting reigns of CBS’ The Late Late Show and starring in Disney’s Into The Woods ($212.9M global B.O.). Prior recipients include Emma Watson, Daniel Craig, Kate Winslet, Tilda Swinton, Helena Bonham Carter, Emily Blunt, Michael Sheen, and Rachel Weisz. The honors are presented annually at a gala dinner.
Done + Dusted will produce this year’s ceremony which will be held at the Beverly Hilton on October 30, at the start of the awards season; the BAFTA Britannia Awards always draws a fair share of Oscar contenders happy to press the flesh.
