Amir Khan Expresses Love For Pakistan
Talking to media after a meeting with Director General Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Akhtar Nawaz Ganjera at his office, he said he came here to talk about Amir Khan Boxing Academy which aims to improve boxing in Pakistan. “I also believe that we can make many champions from Pakistan and to do this we announce the foundation of an academy here”, the British boxer of Pakistani origin revealed. My dream has been to help Pakistan in sports.
“Khan believed that Pakistan could be a top nation in boxing”. He said boxing had changed his life and believed that whatever he was today was due to boxing. “And being a boxer myself I chose to extend support in boxing”, he said.
Amir’s father Sajjad, uncle Tahir Khan, younger brother Haroon Khan, PSB DDG facilities Agha Amjedullah, DDG Dr Waqar, DDG Habib Shah and others were also present there.
“I will ensure international-standard equipment for the youngsters, which will be the first in Islamabad”.
“I am very proud to be here in Pakistan”.
The world champion boxer hinted to open at least one more academy in the country in coming years. Pakistani boxers have grabbed 60 medals in Asian Games including six gold medals, 20 silver medals and 34 bronze medals.
“It is indeed a great honor of having Amir with us”.
Speaking on the occasion, Ejaz Chaudhry said that Amir Khan was a hero of Pakistani nation.
The PSB DG termed opening of Amir Khan Boxing Academy in Islamabad as a historic day for Pakistan and handed over newly-constructed boxing hall to Amir.
In an interview with Online on Saturday, Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination Riaz Hussain Pirzada lauded the steps taken by Amir Khan for promotion of boxing in Pakistan.
He was quite hopeful and optimistic about the future of boxing in Pakistan after observing the passion and spirit for the sport among the youth.
