Shoreham Airshow crash: Spectators film moment Hawker Hunter jet nose dives
The Hawker Hunter crashed just north of Shoreham aiport about 1.30pm, ending up in a bush. The emergency services are responding.
The plane, believed to be a Hawker Hunter, reportedly hit several cars and even some cyclists before finally crashing to the ground.
Horrific photos appear to show a huge ball of flames at the point where witnesses said the plane came down. “Updates will follow when available”.
Police have confirmed there are “several” casualties but it has since been reported that the pilot was pulled from the burning wreckage of the crash alive and raced to hospital.
The historic fighter jet, part of the Shoreham Airshow, crashed just north of Brighton City Airport, where the airshow was taking place.
Eyewitness Stephen Jones said the plane did a loop but did not make it and crashed on, or very close to, the A27.
“The A27 has been closed n both directions and drivers are asked to avoid the area until further notice”.
An Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) spokesman said: “The AAIB is aware of the incident and we will be deploying a team to investigate”.
