Irishman in induced coma after attack in Sydney
The 29-year-old is in an induced coma at St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney and has reportedly undergone surgery to relieve pressure on his brain.
Jason Cierans (29) from Cork was out with friends when he was struck in the attack in the early hours of the morning.
Two men were arrested at the scene and brought to Waverley Police Station.
NSW Police are investigating two separate brawls in Sydney, one of which left a man in a critical condition.
The Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed that it is providing consular assistance to an Irish citizen injured in Sydney.
A police spokesperson told 7News: ‘A crime scene has been established and is being examined by specialist forensic officers, ‘ but no reasons for the brawl have been determined.
The 30-year-old man has been charged with reckless cause grievous bodily harm, and has been refused bail, to appear at Parramatta Local Court tomorrow via video link.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the brawls to come forward.
