Joel Embiid might not be ready for start of 2016-17 season
Finally, a surgery date was announced and on August 19th, Joel Embiid’s second surgery to his right foot took place with very optimistic results.
However, Embiid is expected to miss the entire next season, reports ESPN.
“If we all do our part”, Hinkie said, “this will end in a way in which Joel can achieve all his dreams for having a really long, really fantastic National Basketball Association career”. Nobody has talked me off of that just yet.
“I’m optimistic. The doctors that operated on him yesterday are, too”, Hinkie told reporters.
Embiid, a 2014 draft pick, had a bone graft Tuesday, with two existing screws replaced and a graft using bone from his hip.
According to Pompey, the recovery time for Embiid’s latest operation is five to eight months, but Philadelphia could wait up to 14 months to put Embiid back on the court, taking the most cautious approach possible. The second surgery was not to fix another break, but his recovery was slower than expected. “Think about it. Last year, we thought everything was healthy and he didn’t play”, Pompey said.
What’s insane is that he might not even be ready for the start of what would be his third season since being drafted.
How the 7-footer from Kansas re-injured his foot is unclear. He may miss a couple games.
