Jenner faces manslaughter over crash
Sheriff’s Detective Richard Curry told the Los Angeles Times Jenner was not speeding, but was driving at an unsafe speed for the road conditions.
While the 65-year-old Olympic athlete was still living as Bruce, the star was accused of causing a four-car collision in February which resulted in the death of a 69-year-old woman named Kim Howe.
If Caitlyn is found to be guilty, she can face upto one year in prison, However, Jenner has no prior record which makes it unlikely that she will face any jail time. Daniel W. Vomhof, an accident reconstructionist, says that it’s hard to stop quickly with the additional weight from pulling a loaded trailer.
“The District Attorney’s Office will determine what, if any, charges will be filed in this case, or if there will be a request for further investigation”, the sheriff’s department said.
She was adamant that Jenner – who transitioned to living publicly as a woman earlier this year – would never intentionally put anyone at risk of harm.
Jenner’s attorney Blair Berk declined comment. She would most likely face a fine or probation and maybe even a lesser charge such as driving too fast for conditions. She was formerly known as Bruce Jenner, the gold medalist in the men’s decathlon at the 1976 Summer Olympics, stepfather of the Kardashian clan and star of the hit E! reality series “Keeping Up With the Kardashians”. The driver of a Prius that stopped in front of Howe’s vehicle and two of Howe’s stepchildren are suing Jenner.
The lawsuit by Dana Redmond and William Howe does not specify how much they are seeking.
The video released in July appeared to show Jenner rear-ending the Lexus, pushing it into oncoming traffic, then striking the Prius, which was driven by Hollywood talent manager Jessica Marie Steindorff. A phone message for Steindorff’s attorney, Brad Simon, was not immediately returned Thursday.
The accident occurred months before Jenner’s gender transition. She’s vowed to use her to celebrity platform to urge acceptance for others who are transgender.
