Southampton boss Ronald tells Man United Sadio Mane is not for sale
With Manchester United interested in Southampton’s Sadio Mane, his manager is adamant he’s going nowhere.
The Red Devils appear to have lost out to Chelsea in the race to land Barcelona’s Pedro, and it appears Mane is the next name on Ed Woodward’s shortlist.
Press Association Sport understands United made a bid for the Senegalese 23-year-old last week. He made his debut in the 8-0 win against Sunderland, and scored the fastest hat trick in the last home match for Southampton where they won against Aston Villa 6-1.
Scoring 10 goals last season for the Saints, Sadio Mane could be just the man for the job at Old Trafford.
United are in the market for a striker and, with Louis van Gaal insisting it was their decision to not buy 28-year-old Pedro, they considered Mane a younger and more suitable option. I don’t like it because maybe players are not then focused on what they have to do.
United’s interest in Mane means that Southampton are once again faced with losing one of their key players after two summers of transfer upheaval.
“We’re not selling any more players”, said Koeman after Thursday’s game.
“Listen, there is no bid for any player. We like to continue with these players and that’s the most important (thing)”. If Manchester United managed to prise away Mane from Southampton as they already have done with Luke Shaw and Morgan Schneiderlin, United could be won to watch for the Premier League title.
Shortly after their 3-0 defeat at Manchester City, Chelsea signed left-back Baba Rahman from Augsburg for £21million, and on Wednesday it emerged they were close to signing Pedro.
