Tales From the Borderlands: Episode 4 – Escape Plan Bravo Trailer Released
Telltale Games has delivered some stellar chapters in its Tales from the Borderlands series so far, with three very entertaining episodes paying homage to the franchise originally created by Gearbox Software, while simultaneously improving upon the source material through interesting ways. Sadly, this level of agency and player decision is notably absent in Escape Plan Bravo.
When last we left the ragtag heroes of Tales From The Borderlands, things were looking somewhat bleak.
Escape Plan Bravo’s story impresses through its alternating pattern between poignant, emotional scenes, and hilarious situations.
The setting here also makes for a nice change. For my favourite, I’ll say no more than “one-man army” – the rest is for you to discover. Last week we got to see some screenshots for this upcoming episode and this week we get to check out the official trailer. So if you’ve played through the series up to this point, don’t stop now, I have a feeling we’re in for one hell of an ending here.
Special mention to the fabulous title card sequence, paying a stellar homage to Armageddon and making everything feel even more epic thanks to the song.
There are two major highlights in the fourth episode of Tales from the Borderlands that push it into the “great” category.
This episode relies little on action sequences, and primarily focuses on conversational choices to keep things moving. As a result, you have a wild ride that essentially shorts out at the end. Although there isn’t much combat and nearly no places where the gamer could get killed, there’s more plot development and drama to justify a lack of action.
“Escape Plan Bravo” also provides some of the best visuals Tales From the Borderlands has seen so far. With trademark Borderlands dialogue, this is fortunately never uncomfortable or boring because players won’t actually realize how much information they’ve just soaked up in the opening few minutes. In fact, TFTB has been consistently easy on the eyes, which has been a boon to the overall experience from day one. With the final piece locked up in Handsome Jack’s office up on the Hyperion’s Helios station, the gang must devise a plan to break in and break out with the tech without alerting anyone working for the most devious company in the universe. There are a couple of tender moments in this all too brief episode, but the rest of the story is all whimsy. The series just wouldn’t work as well as it has without spot-on camerawork.
