Eli, Giants’ offense doesn’t look ready in win over Jacksonville
McClain played in his first preseason game after missing the opener last week with a neck injury.
The New York Giants will host the New York Giants on Saturday night at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
The Giants offense improved…
On paper, Bortles numbers of 8-for-16 for 98 yards don’t look great.
Bortles left with the Jaguars ahead 9-3. Jacksonville isn’t exactly known as an offensive juggernaut.
No the pass rush wasn’t able to get to Eli Manning.
But it wasn’t all on him as the Giants dominated the second half. “But [I’m] very pleased with how we came out compared to last week”. The Giants atrted with John Jerry at right guard and Marshall Newhouse at right tackle. Geoff Schwartz also returned after struggling with an ankle injury the past few weeks and played well sprinkled in at right guard and tackle.
Were we wrong about the offensive line? Maybe Coughlin just wanted to see if he could get some info on what is/is not going to be ruled a catch. The Giants weren’t especially effective stopping the run early or limiting Bortles.
Before joining the Jaguars as quarterbacks coach in January, Nathaniel Hackett was Buffalo’s offensive coordinator for two seasons. Do the math and it would have been a huge game if he did that over four quarters.
The problems for the Giants were widespread.
The only aspect of the Giants’ game that seemed to be clicking was their challenges. But heading into the second week of the preseason, Manning set the goals for his unit against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday night at MetLife Stadium. Second-rounder Landon Collins sprained his medial collateral ligament early in the game, and Mykkele Thompson, taken in the fifth round, tore his Achilles tendon and is out for the season.
Lots to choose from here, but the dropped passes were again troubling. He jumped off-sides during a Giants field goal attempt.
Tom Coughlin is an old guy. The 2014 third overall NFL draft pick was a solid 11-for-15 in their first preseason game, though the Jaguars were swarmed by drops throughout the match. Can’t imagine the head coach’s commentary will be any different this time around.
