Planned Parenthood To Hold Rally Thursday At Governor’s Mansion
The Obama administration has warned states that defunding Planned Parenthood could be in violation of federal law.
The request comes after state health officials recently inspected 16 Planned Parenthood facilities and said three were performing second-trimester abortions when they licensed to perform first-trimester abortions.
America’s Title X Program is a “family planning program”. StemExpress, a biomedical tissue procurement company, has explicitly denied ever receiving an intact fetus, and both organizations say they handled fetal tissue donations only with patients’ permission. The Governor said her call for action is not politically motivated but rather a move to make sure South Carolina clinics are operating at the highest standard.
In a letter dated Tuesday, Haley asked Department of Health and Environmental Control Director Catherine Heigel to review the policies and the practices of the state’s abortion clinics, while making those owned or affiliated with Planned Parenthood a priority.
The anti-abortion organization has recharged the national debate on abortion after releasing a series of secretly recorded videos showing Planned Parenthood officials cavalierly discussing the harvesting of organs and tissue from aborted fetuses for research.
But then also, there is a strong support for federal funds to help Planned Parenthood to provide screenings, pregnancy tests and prenatal services to women. State rules define the first trimester as the first 12 weeks after fertalization, the same as 14 weeks after the last menstrual period.
And guess what? None of the states investigating Planned Parenthood in the wake of the videos have found any wrongdoing either.
More than 50 people, holding signs and wearing Planned Parenthood T-shirts, gathered in front of the James M. Hanley Federal Building in a late-afternoon show of solidarity for a group that has faced accusations of attempting to sell fetal tissue from abortions.
The group noted that AHCA’s new definition was made without any prior announcement and noted the political timing of the citations that were issued two days before the Republican presidential debate. “They don’t exist. If they did exist, we wouldn’t be in the same crisis”.
