Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino urges focus after quick Leicester equaliser
Leicester City came into the game sublime form winning their first two matches, while Tottenham Hotspur have only taken one point from their first two games. Claudio Ranieri’s men were looking for another victory with Mauricio Pochettino aiming to claim three points for the first time this season.
Though three goals in two games is way too early to decide as to whether Mahrez will fire Leicester to a European spot, still Ranieri’s influence may play a telling role as to how the Algerian performs for the rest of the season. Leicester were destined for relegation past year but after a string of big wins they managed to stay up.
Leicester had a big shout for a penalty turned down just before the break when Mahrez, showing off all his tricks, was brought down by Vertonghen. Not doing so allowed Spurs to take control.
Nacer Chadli was Tottenham’s second top scorer and has already got off the mark with his striker last season. But if Mahrez can get the better of Davies’ inexperience, Leicester will have every chance of continuing their 100% record in the league. “Slowly, slowly he is getting better, at the end he will be a complete player”.
Eric Dier netted a header in Tottenham’s 2-2 draw with Stoke City last week, but could not repeat the trick on the end of Lamela’s 25th-minute corner before referee Martin Atkinson halted the action for a drinks break.
City could even have snatched a victory late on when captain Wes Morgan headed straight at Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris from close range but Ranieri believes the draw was a fair result.
The two sides’ first ever league meeting was a second division match in the 1919/20 season.
Riyad Mahrez: A superb display from the winger, who twisted and turned the Tottenham defence inside out with his pace and trickery. However, if the last game’s tactics are anything to go by, we will see Chadli push further up the pitch and Kane dropping a little deeper to make plays and look for rebounds to shoot.
“It is very long season and we need to keep the same level and improve defensively and be more consistent”.
“We played very well tactically and I am very satisfied”.
The English Premier League enters the third round of matches and at the time of writing, there have not been many eyebrow-raising moments save for the consistently good performances put in by newly-promoted Leicester and a not-so-good display by reigning champions Chelsea.
