Shoulder surgery sidelines Pascagoula’s Senquez Golson
Golson remains on the Physically Unable to Perform list after injuring the shoulder in mini-camp.
For rookie B.J. Finney the opportunity to play in a game at Heinz Field is all part of a dream he’s already been living out at Steelers training camp.
The Steelers hold their final day of training camp today and it appears the majority are ready to pack their bags, but head coach Mike Tomlin isn’t ready to go just yet.
Pittsburgh Steelers rookie cornerback Senquez Golson had shoulder surgery Friday morning and according to David Todd of ESPN 970, it included repairing a torn labrum. “We thought it could be a great experience for him whether or not he was participating or not”.
“Obviously we’ve known that surgery was something that was probably necessary from the time that we got here”, Tomlin said. Inside linebacker Lawrence Timmons, who made the Pro Bowl previous year, will not play after missing all week of practices with turf toe, although Tomlin said he is not overly concerned about it.
The Steelers expect the first team to see more action than they did in the team’s first two preseason games, when many starters played only one series. “That’s why we waited to get the surgery”.
At quarterback, Gradkowski is expected to make his 2015 debut after Ben Roethlisberger gives way. Tomlin told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that although he knew Golson was eventually going to need the operation, he wanted him to experience as much of training camp as he possibly could. “We had some interest in Boykin regardless”. Roster spots are limited, and Wild will have to show that he can play safety, linebacker and special teams to crack the 53-man roster.
