Still No Talk of Ambassadors in Tehran, London — Iranian Official
The Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Council of Resistance of Iran calls on all defenders of human rights and democracy and all supporters of peace and tranquility in the region and the world to condemn this visit and take immediate action to cancel it.
The accord, which ended a 13-year standoff, will see the lifting of economic sanctions imposed on Iran and has sparked a flurry of interest from countries seeking to re-connect with oil-rich Iran.
“The British embassy in Tehran has always been taken seriously”, said Mr Rassam.
Britain expelled Iranian diplomats from London after the incident at the British Embassy in Tehran.
It follows the election of Hassan Rouhani, a more moderate president under whom relations with the west have improved significantly.
“President Rouhani’s election and last month’s nuclear agreement were important milestones”. I believe that we have the potential to go much further.
Following the rampage, Iran’s Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei called the mission an “evil embassy”. Staff were seized by protesters. London responded by cutting diplomatic contacts to their lowest level, while not severing ties completely.
Takht-e-Ravanchi says British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond will attend the reopening of the British Embassy in Tehran on Sunday.
“Britain and Iran should also be ready to discuss the challenges we both face including terrorism, regional stability, the spread of Isil in Syria and Iraq, counter-narcotics and migration”.
“This move does not mean that we agree on everything”.
Plans to reopen the embassy were announced in June a year ago.
After embassies are reopened, the non-resident charges d’affaires will turn into resident ones without replacement, Ravanchi added, IRNA news agency reported August 22.
The delegation includes the Institute of Directors, the British Bankers’ Association, Shell Upstream worldwide and the Confederation of British Industry, to discuss future trade opportunities following the historic nuclear agreement.
The two countries made diplomatic efforts afterwards to amend ties.
