Nelson believed to have torn ACL
Nelson, a Pro Bowl receiver, suffered what the Packers fear is a torn ACL when he went down untouched while attempting to make a cut after a catch in what was Green Bay’s second preseason game. On the first offensive series of the game Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey was carted off with an ankle injury and would not return. Nelson appeared to have loads of room to run when defensive again Antwon Blake slipped on the turf. There was no announcement regarding how long he would be sidelined.
Although the rookie is likely to be inconsistent, he needs to be owned simply for his upside. Even though Nelson walked back to the locker room and seemed to be moving briskly without favoring his leg, it doesn’t mean the injury isn’t significant. Pouncey, who missed all of 2013 after tearing multiple ligaments in his right knee in the opener against Tennessee, is out indefinitely. Rodgers banged his forearm on the play and iced it afterward but said he could have continued if it was the regular season. It wasn’t necessarily pretty at the beginning but we got the win. Cornerback Senquez Golson might be out for the year after undergoing shoulder surgery. It was reported in the press box that he had a knee injury, but no other information was provided before the game ended.
Aaron Rodgers and his Packers’ offense looked a lot like Ben Roethlisberger and his offense did in their first drive in Jacksonville. Nelson became a consensus All-Pro a year ago while catching 98 passes for over 1500 yards and 13 touchdowns for the Packers last year. Nelson has proven to be a ideal complement to Rodgers’s unique and unbelievable skill set-he thrives at the hard catch and in finding space when Rodgers has to improvise from the pocket. “Too many incompletions. …” For the first time in his career, Cobb played in all 16 games for the Packers. Murphy said the Steelers ran a running back in motion out wide and he had to read the defense for an option route.
“Those are things you have to push through”, McCarthy said. I’m just trying to work hard and stay consistent. But it’s part of the game. “They have to figure out who to have on the 53, so I think it’s important to have”.
Suggs defended the hit on Bradford and said it was a legal play. We were hoping to get Shamarko more snaps, but he was hurt. That’s not my responsibility to update you on the rule. I’m just out there working hard. I knew I was kind of the last read.
-Free agent guard Evan Mathis reportedly left Seattle without a contract. Alonzo Harris was most impressive against New England, rushing seven times for 41 yards. Kraft made it clear he wasn’t speaking specifically about the NFL’s handling of its Deflategate investigation. Chris Hubbard had an absolute nightmare of a game today and Miles Dieffenbach, B.J.
