Panthers WR Benjamin Out for the Season
The Dolphins’ much-scrutinized left guard not only held his own against the Panthers’ stout front seven, he thrived.
The injury to Benjamin doesn’t just make the game against the Jags tougher for Carolina, it makes the entire season a lot harder. Kelvin Benjamin is done for the year after suffering a torn ACL in training camp which has led the Panthers to figure out how to best replace him.
“Obviously, we feel terrible for Kelvin”, general manager Dave Gettleman said in a news release. He will undergo MRI, Carolina Panthers’ head coach Ron Rivera clarified. Benhamin was running one-on-one against Dolphins safety Reshad Jones when he planted for a turn toward the sideline and collapsed instead of being able to continue the route. “He doesn’t shy away from physical cornerback play, adjusts his upper half consistently to box out defenders, and times his jumps to routinely win at the catch point”.
Carolina wasn’t the only team that suffered a loss during that joint practice with Miami.
Now I know the Panthers are defensive-minded team which likes to run the football and they excel in that role, but the lack of any real threats on the outside is now a huge problem for the team. “If Coach Philbin said anything to our guys it was as if I were talking”. He really impressed in training camp, and his talent is something the Panthers could work with.
Ginn went onto say the Panthers are “pretty loaded all around”.
Without Benjamin, Cam Newton will need to start becoming an accurate quarterback.
The Dolphins and Panthers will kickoff from Carolina’s Bank of America Stadium at 7pm ET Saturday. As reported by the Inquisitr earlier today, Benjamin was carted off the field after injuring his knee during a non-contact drill. Now one of the key components to their passing attack, wide receiver Percy Harvin is dealing with a nagging hip problem that caused the team to give him a platelet-rich plasma injection to help with his recovery. Second-year man Corey Brown and veterans Jerricho Cotchery and Ted Ginn should be considered the starters for now. The star receiver scorched opponents for over 1,000 yards and nine touchdowns as a rookie this past season, and his numbers were only expected to go up this season.
For the Jacksonville Jaguars, this opens the door even wider for a Week 1 victory in the 2015 NFL season. “One thing you can do is keep working your craft and coaches decide who and where they want to go with positions”. In a report from NFL.com in April of 2014, Maclin claimed to be “fully recovered” from his right ACL tear.
