Louisiana state trooper shot in head during traffic stop near Lake Charles
Capt. Doug Cain, a state police spokesman, confirmed that the officer, whose name was not immediately released, was shot in the head.
A Louisiana State Police trooper was shot in the head during a traffic stop Sunday, reports CBS affiliate WWL-TV. James Anderson described the trooper’s wound as serious.
The unnamed trooper stopped a vehicle driving in an unsafe manner about 2:45 p.m., KPLC reported. The trooper, whose name has not been released, was transported to Lake Charles Memorial Hospital, and a suspect has been arrested in connection with the shooting, according to local KLPC news.
Anderson says the man fought with other drivers, and was in a hospital being treated for scrapes and other injuries. The man is in police custody and was suspected of being impaired, he said.
“The suspect was subsequently detained by passing motorists as additional citizens rendered aid to the trooper until assistance arrived on the scene”, Edmonson said.
At this time, there is no information on the trooper’s condition.
