Box office report: Straight Outta Compton No. 1 again in slow weekend
“Straight Outta Compton” topped the North American box office for the second weekend in a row.
Fox’s “Hitman: Agent 47”, a second attempt to transform a popular video game series into a successful film one, hit a speed bump, earning a meagre US$8.2 million across 3,261 locations. In terms of casting, the outlet reports that none of the actors featured in Straight Outta Compton are expected to reprise their roles.

The sequel stars Shannyn Sossamon as a young mother who moves into a haunted rural house. “Sinister 2” is yet another horror sequel that pales in comparison to the original. The movie featured the return of “eater of children” Bughuul but the second installment in the franchise suffered from terrifying reviews, with just a 12% approval rating from critics at aggregate site RottenTomatoes.com.
“Hitman: Agent 47” from Fox premiered at the fourth place.
Its seventh week in theaters animated comedy sequel “Minions” was ninth with a weekend take of $3.7 million for a cumulative total of almost $320 million. Starring Homeland’s Rupert Friend, the actioner was directed by Aleksander Bach from a script by Skip Woods and Michael Finch. The movie’s lead actress, Kristen Stewart, has also lost much of her “Twilight” fan base, becoming known in recent years for VOD art films. The film went on to gross more than $48 million in the U.S. and Canada. It gathered 45 percent positive notices, according to Rottentomatoes.
“Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation” took the No. 2 spot, adding $11.7 million in its fourth weekend. It’s set to cross the $100 million mark on Saturday, its ninth day in theaters, and appears to have plenty of gas still in the tank. “That’s an excellent story”, says Jeff Bock, senior box-office analyst for Exhibitor Relations. “All three of those films combined would have made a decent opening for any one of them”. “This is the worst of the worst coming out”. The film has now grossed $26.6 million domestically and $38.7 million worldwide; the domestic potential is around $35 million to $40 million. Summer to date is 8.6% ahead of a year ago at $4.09 billion and 7.7% behind the 2013 summer.
