USC QB Ricky Town Transferring To Arkansas
After arriving at the University of Southern California (USC) this summer for his freshman football season, Ricky Town decided the Trojans’ offense was not right for him and chose to transfer.
Town practiced with the Razorbacks on Thursday and told ESPN he fits into the Arkansas system.
The Ventura, Calif., native enrolled at USC in January and participated in spring practice. We all know Bret Bielema focuses on the ground game, but if Town shows promise he could help open up that offense.
What tilted his decision to attend Arkansas was the desire to play in a pro style system like that of Arkansas’. Among the three quarterbacks now backing up Allen, only one – redshirt sophomore Austin Allen, Brandon’s brother – has seen any game time, and none have Town’s top-100 overall recruiting pedigree.
The race for Ricky Town is on.
Quarterback Cole Kelley, who is committed for the 2016 class, said Town’s commitment has no impact on whether he will attend Arkansas.
“I don’t want to jeopardize the roster”.
“If I was going to transfer, I wanted to do it immediately as to not lose two years of eligibility”, Town told Schad. “The staff and players have made Fayetteville feel like home to me”.
The coach also said Saturday he brought in two other quarterbacks between the end of last season and fall camp.
Ricky Town was ranked the No. 6 pro-style quarterback in the class of 2015.
“Dan had a very, very live conversation with them last night about where it stood, why it stood”, Bielema said. He said offensive coordinator Dan Enos did that Friday. “That’s why I went with it”. “We’re trying to add to our depth at the quarterback position and get four eligible quarterbacks for the fall competition”.
