Bethesda wants to release more annual titles
Fallout 4’s developers are industry veterans, they know that they can’t please everyone.
Recently, Bethesda‘s marketing director Pete Hines clarified in an interview to MCV that the company does not want to repeat the mistakes it committed previously, such as releasing only DLCs and a few accessories instead of a new game.
When Bethesda first revealed Fallout 4 in the beginning of June gamers everywhere were having a hard time keeping the hype at a level that still allowed them to function.
Right now, its primary focus is Fallout 4, after which it will gradually start working on games that are already in development. Graphics look much sharper and colored than in Fallout 3, avoiding this way the risk of being monotonous, while gameplay is yes familiar but somewhat more story and action oriented. If you played Fallout 3 you ought to be able to see things that are recognizable or similar or whatever.
And if this doesn’t come at the comprise of the rather excellent games the publisher is known for, then it’s really good for all of us.
Fallout 4 is nearly definitely going to be the biggest game of the year.
This push towards more production isn’t going to jeopardize the studio’s carefully cultivated image of quality over quantity and Hines affirms that we don’t have to worry about Bethesda becoming another Activision or Ubisoft. According to Hines this was not only how the team wanted it, but it actually could have been a much shorter lead time if they had fully gotten their way. “When you’re playing it it’s a mix of familiar and different”.
Whatever the case may be, I will be eagerly flinging off the cellophane on Fallout 4’s case and flinging myself into a post-apocalyptic world on November 10th nevertheless.
