Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Announced for WWE NXT
Although his appearance at NXT Takeover Brooklyn came with Liger at the ripe old age of 50, Liger had a solid match with the NXT’s “Prince of Pretty” Tyler Breeze. The All Red Diva returned to the ring a few weeks ago and showed a small improvement – but not enough to give me any faith in a live match.
Fans of both genders are emotionally invested in them, and their increasing impact and influence has led to main event matches on high-profile NXT WWE Network shows. A pinfall does nothing for eithers career so we could see either Corbin getting the win or the match ending in a DQ or countout.
The finisher with Owens and Balor, a ladder match, didn’t disappoint. She’s a lovable character whose credibility (and fan support) slowly grew over the months, but she couldn’t quite win the big one. It wouldn’t shock me at all to see him show up on Monday. He looked really great here and showed a ton of charisma. I wouldn’t be surprised if he began challenging for the NXT title in short order.
However, we start with Quick Hits (8:00-54:00), where we talk about ESPN and WWE possibly having a deal to cover more major WWE events. From there, we shoot back to the entrance way where the legendary Jushin Thunder Liger makes his way down to the ring. His character needs to get better.
If you aren’t a regular viewer of NXT, you wouldn’t know from watching NXT Takeover Brooklyn that WWE considers the product to be that of a developmental nature. Still this match should be just as good as the Tokyo one with tons of near falls and possibly a sighting of the demon.
As for Joe, a motivated Samoa Joe is certainly a good thing and it’s great to see him on a big stage once again. They will not have another opportunity like this in that you have her two nights later in the same building after a classic match.
His biggest asset is his versatility – he can wrestle as a power guy, while also flying through the air. So without further ado, let’s get to our full preview for all the matches and lay out our predictions.
Along with fellow NXT talents Charlotte Flair (daughter of wrestling icon Ric Flair), champion Sasha Banks, one-named Bayley and a growing collection of talent from around the world (including Canada’s Natalya Neidhart, British-born Paige and Australian native Emma), the Dublin, Ireland-born Lynch has ratcheted up the level of competition – physical, gruelling, often agonizingly painful – to rival that of the WWE’s men’s division.
This is unbelievably exciting for NXT fans hoping the “Four Horsewomen” ascending to Raw doesn’t mean high-quality women’s wrestling in NXT is over.
