Tropical Storm Danny takes aim at Caribbean
Danny is expected to bring 2-4 inches of rain to the Leeward Islands, and drought-stricken Puerto Rico will get some as well.
As of the hour 2 p.m., Danny was situated nine hundred miles eastern of the Caribbean’s Leeward Small island beach was little by little shifting to the west northwest at ten mph.
A Tropical Storm Warning is now in effect for St. Kitts and Nevis, as well as Anguilla, Antigua, Barbuda and Montserrat. Danny will weaken further to a minimal tropical storm by early next week when it is expected to reach near Puerto Rico.
Behind Danny is a tropical wave near and south of the Cape Verde Islands that is becoming more organized. Neither feature poses a threat to the U.S., at least right now.
“There are no coastal warnings or watches in effect”, it said, though it cautioned that “interests in the Leeward Islands should monitor the progress of Danny”.
According to the official forecast report from NOAA, the hurricane’s strength will steadily drop from 100 mph this morning to 85 mph later today and 75 mph tomorrow, making it a Category 1 hurricane.
“The storm is expected to keep weakening for the next five days”.
Anselmi said Danny was expected to dump more rain over the Virgin Islands than Puerto Rico, especially on the islands of St. Thomas and St. John.
