Baltimore Co. Fire Lt. dies in Laurel motorcycle crash
A Baltimore County career fire lieutenant died early Sunday after crashing his motorcycle into another motorcycle on the way home from his shift.
He was one of two motorcyclists killed in the crash. He was promoted to paramedic/firefighter in 2004 and reached the rank of lieutenant in 2009.
The crash occurred about 4:40 a.m.at 11500 Laurel Bowie Road, also known as Route 197, said Prince George’s County Police spokeswoman Cpl. For reason not yet known, the driver in the northbound lane crossed the center line and struck the southbound driver head on.
“This is a bad loss for the Fire Department and an even greater tragedy for Lt. Harrison’s family”, said Fire Chief John Hohman.
Harrison’s most recent assignment was as a fire dispatcher, where he was responsible for assigning equipment and personnel to emergency calls.
Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.
Hays said Harrison “never lost his cool”, and added that losing a seasoned paramedic is going to be tough on the department.
