Flood warnings in place as heavy rain lashes parts of the UK
After 24 hours of rain of sometimes intense downpours, which saw a campsite in Cornwall flooded and roads blocked by flood water on Sunday, a yellow weather warning remains in force.
Traffic disruption is possible – and there are 10 flood alerts in place, five in the south west and five in Wales.
“It is already bringing heavy showers to the south coast from Portsmouth westwards”, he said.
The city is on the edge of the area the Met Office believes will be affected by the bad weather.
A spokesman said: “A low pressure system is expected to run into the UK from the south on Monday morning, bringing areas of heavy rain particularly across some southern areas of England”.
The Met Office has warned of the risk of flooding, including potential disruption to travel. There is 40mm to 60mm possible in some places.
Drivers are being warned to take care as the Monday rush hour gets under way, particularly on the hazardous A38.
There could even be strong winds in exposed coastal areas.
The rain will not move west into the North Sea until around midnight, he said.
There were also heavy rain in Exeter (33.2mm), Bournemouth (26.4mm) and Gogerddan in south west Wales (25.8mm) as a heavy band of thundery showers moves west. His condition is not known.
Met Office has issued the warning, starting tomorrow, as temperatures plummet and the drizzle becomes persistent rain.
The day would have a high of just 16 degrees.
Last week bookmaker Coral announced that it had cut the odds on this August being the wettest in British history to 9/4 from 3/1.
