Broadway to Oz is a dream come true: Hugh Jackman
Hugh Jackman is taking his sellout 2011 stage show, Back To Broadway, home to Australia in a five city tour from November, the Tony award victor announced Monday in Sydney.
“It’s just about all about me”, the Golden Globe, Emmy and Tony Award victor informed reporters in Sydney.
He met his wife Deborra Lee Furness during Corelli, an Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s TV drama series.
In it, he will reflect on life growing up in Australia and his subsequent Hollywood career, including a tribute to his role as Wolverine in the blockbuster X-Men film franchise. Kicking off in Melbourne on 24 November, the tour will also visit Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.
“You will get to know the real me”, Jackman said of the arena show which will mix songs with his own storytelling.
The 46-year-old said it had always been his intention to bring the Broadway show to Australia, saying “the end game for me was being here”.
Jackman said the semi-autobiographical show would include songs from Les Miserables, The Boy From Oz, Carousel, a medley from great movie musicals including Singin’ in the Rain, home video footage, guest performers, dancing and stories from behind the scenes of well-known moments in his career.
The tour will be his first time performing on an Australian stage in nearly 10 years. It’s every song that I love from most of the shows I’ve been in like Les Miserables or The Boy From Oz, shows I haven’t been in but wanted to be in or maybe will one day.
“It might seem like a low bar but for Deb that’s about as high a bar as you can get”, Jackman said.
“It’s all about me: it’s everything I love”.
