State Trooper Shot in Head During Traffic Stop, in Critical Condition; Suspect
A Louisiana State Trooper was shot in the head and critically injured while trying to stop a driver suspected of being drunk or drugged Sunday evening in southwestern Louisiana, state police officials told the Associated Press.
During the course of the interaction, Daigle produced a shotgun and fired at Trooper Vincent striking him in the head.
Vincent remains in critical condition Monday at a hospital in Lake Charles.
Daigle tried to leave but several people who were passing by were able to stop him, said police. He says charges against Daigle will include attempted murder of a police officer.
A gunman who critically wounded a Louisiana State trooper Sunday afternoon was tackled by passing motorists who stopped to help, according to authorities. Responding Troopers, law enforcement, and medical personnel from the area arrived at the scene shortly thereafter placing Daigle into custody and transporting Trooper Vincent via Acadian Air Med to Lake Charles Memorial Hospital. “Kill someone”, Edmonson said during a news conference livestreamed by KPLC-TV.
Daigle exited his truck and walked to Vincent, speaking to him and asking him if he was still alive, Edmonson said. That’s the words that came out of his mouth, ‘ Edmonson said.
“Sometime after that, he encountered the driver and a struggle ensued”, he said.
“As I perceive it, they rendered help to the trooper, they referred to as for assist utilizing the trooper’s radio, they usually detained the suspect”, stated Sgt.
Edmonson described Vincent as an honorable officer with a wife and a 9-year-old son. He asked for prayers and well wishes for the officer and his family. “He’s got a long, hard fight….”
