Hawaii national parks celebrate birthday with free admission
A spectacular view overlooking Grand Canyon Nationwide Park.
Entrance fees to Haleakalā National Park will be waived on Tuesday, August 25 in celebration of the 99 year anniversary of the park and the National Park Service.
“Birthdays are a time to celebrate and we want you to know that your local national park is the place to join in on the fun” said Weir Farm National Historic Site Superintendent Linda Cook.
You can also share your park experience with others by posting on social media with the hashtag #FindYourPark. “We invite everyone to come to Shenandoah National Park, this year, next year, and beyond, to experience all this wonderful park has to offer”. Those in need of activity ideas can check out the NPS’ list of 99 Ways to Find Your Park, which includes recommendations such as earning a Junior Ranger badge and paddling on a water trail.
Morristown National Historical Park was established in 1933 to preserve, protect, and commemorate the landscapes, structures, features, and museum collections of the Continental Army winter encampments, the headquarters of General George Washington, and related Revolutionary War sites at Morristown. Today, there are 408 national parks throughout the country and each one tells an important part of the American story.
The National Park Service began after President Woodrow Wilson signed legislation August 25, 1916; before this, Yellowstone National Park had been managed by the U.S. Cavalry, which established a fort in the Mammoth Hot Springs Area. The remaining days embrace September 26 for Nationwide Public Lands Day and November 11 in honor of Veterans Day. The free admission does not cover costs associated with amenities or user fees, such as charges for camping, boat launches, transportation or special tours.
