Murder probe in Bethnal Green after man and children stabbed
A murder investigation has been launched in London’s East End following the death of a man in his late 70s in Bethnal Green and the stabbing of two children including a two-year-old toddler.
A two-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl had been stabbed, along with the pensioner.
All three youngsters now remain in a stable condition.
Police say the 79-year-old was rushed to hospital on Sunday night, but pronounced dead not long after.
Another boy, aged 13, was discovered at the scene of the incident at Huddleston Close in Tower Hamlets on Sunday evening, and was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Police were called to the property just before 7pm and found the victims suffering from stab injuries, Scotland Yard said today.
The children were taken to an east London hospital where police said they are in a stable condition.
A police spokesman said: “Next of kin have been informed”.
He has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
Formal identification and a post-mortem examination, of the 79-year-old man who died, will be scheduled in due course.
Officers took five people in total with stab injuries to hospital.
Officers have confirmed they are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident. A 13-year-old boy was found with minor injuries, which were not stab wounds.
