Kris Bryant’s homer in bottom of 9th lifts Cubs over Indians
The Cleveland Indians and Chicago Cubs play a game Monday afternoon.
Weather forecasts show wind blowing out to right field at around 21 miles per hour during game time.
Cubs pitcher Jon Lester allowed the tying run in the top of the ninth inning, but his teammate Kris Bryant had his back in the bottom of the ninth.
Kluber, who’d come off tossing back-to-back complete games, and manager Terry Francona said that pitching at Fenway Park hardly helped. Cleveland (58-66) has dropped two of its last three. Lester is 7-1 with a 3.23 ERA and 87 strikeouts in his career against the Indians. Lester took the loss in his last outing, allowing a season-high seven runs and three home runs in just 2 2/3 innings. 333 (3-for-15) against him. Montero is batting. 421 with four doubles, two home runs and seven RBIs in his last six games. The Cubs have won 20 of their past 24 games, their first 20-4 stretch since 1945, according to Comcast Sportsnet’s Christopher Kamka. The Indians, meanwhile, are 5-5 over their last 10 games as they now reside in last place in the American League Central.
