Wisconsin pet food company recalls products over Listeria | Minnesota Public
Consumers who have purchased the products are asked to dispose of the food and return the bag to the store at which it was purchased for a full refund.
Milwaukee-based Stella & Chewy’s said the items include chicken, turkey, salmon and goose meals for cats and dogs.
Looks like your pets might have to change their usual dinner, as pet food maker Stella & Chewy’s has recalled some of its products after a routine test found Listeria in a sample of its chicken freeze-dried dinner patties for dogs.
“The health and safety of our customers and their pets is always of the utmost importance to us”, said Jen Guzman, chief executive officer.
Aside from the product lot in question, designated as Lot # 111-1, the company is also voluntarily pulling out several other products that could have been exposed to the potential Listeria contamination. “We are working with the FDA to further investigate and quickly address the situation”, said Stella & Chewy’s.
Stella & Chewy’s is taking steps to prevent illness by recalling all products included in the same lot as the dinner patties that tested positive. The major human pathogen in the Listeria genus is L. monocytogenes.
Listeria can cause serious illness and even death. Symptoms of listeriosis are variable; most people who are infected have few or no symptoms; when symptoms of Listeria infection are present, they usually consist of fever, muscle aches, nausea and diarrhoea.
The disease can cause pregnant women to suffer a miscarriage, stillbirth or premature delivery.
The company has released a complete list of recalled products on its website as well as a detailed recall annoucement.
