Vin Diesel Announces xXx Sequel
It’s official: Vin Diesel will return as Xander Cage in, um, xXx 3: The Return of Xander Cage.
The 48 year old posted an old photograph of himself, suited-and-booted, looking much younger, alongside the caption: “While I was filming XXX, guys on set called me Air Diesel…”
Vin Diesel has confirmed to xXx fans “the time to return has come”.
The actor will head to the Philippines to start work on the sequel in December, and announced the news on social media. First, it was Riddick, the third installment of a series that began as a smart little sci-fi actioner, then blossomed into a so-ridiculous-it’s-great flop of a sequel before he returned it to its smaller-sized roots.
The 48-year-old exited the Fast And The Furious franchise after movie one, only to return as Dom Toretto in 2009 for the fourth film.
In the first movie, Diesel plays the role of Xander Cage, an extreme sports star recruited by Agent Gibbons (Samuel L. Jackson) of the NSA to go undercover and take down a big time Russian syndicate.
There’s no word yet as to who will be joining Diesel in the movie. Exactly the kind of stuff Vin assures us he lives for… It bombed at the box office, only grossing $71M globally, well below its $131M price tag. Movies where Vin Diesel is the lead that aren’t Fast and Furious films have grossed $35.6 million compared to an average of $219 million for the Fast franchise.
You can see Diesel earlier than that, however, with The Last Witch Hunter out in the UK on October 21.
