Obama to appear at 8th clean energy summit in Las Vegas
Basically, if you want to more green energy options for your house, the president wants to make them more available and affordable.
It’s all the next step in the president’s clean power plan rules he announced last month that are created to cut carbon dioxide emissions from coal- fired power plants by one third.
Nevada’s U.S. Senator Harry Reid on Monday helped unveil a new 80-acre “community solar generation project” to be managed by Pahrump-based Valley Electric Association. His first action back in the saddle is pushing for more alternative horse power for ordinary home and business owners. That could mean rooftop solar panels, once largely the province of committed environmentalists, or other renewable energy innovations.
Obama’s keynote speech is scheduled to close the eighth National Clean Energy Summit at the Mandalay Bay resort.
Countering Reid’s conference, also in Las Vegas, is an “affordable energy summit”. They say Obama’s policies promoting wind and solar power will result in higher electricity prices.
The Obama administration announced a slate of executive actions on Monday to encourage investments in renewable energy and energy efficiency programs, including more than $1 billion in new loan guarantees.
Obama also was announcing the approval of a transmission line to support a planned 485-megawatt solar plant planned for Riverside County in California.
The Wilderness Society’s Chase Huntley called the project a good example “of how we can meet our clean energy goals with limited impact to wildlands and wildlife habitat”.
Later, the president will attend a fundraiser in Henderson for Democratic senate candidate Catherine Cortez Masto.
