‘Empire’ Casts Mo McRae as Gabourey Sidibe’s Love Interest
McRae will be playing someone named J-Poppa, who is apparently “a handsome, easy-going guy”.
Actor Mo McRae attends the NBCUniversal 2015 Golden Globe Awards Party sponsored by Chrysler at The Beverly Hilton Hotel on January 11, 2015 in Beverly Hills, California.
“Empire” marks a reunion for McRae and exec producer Lee Daniels and Danny Strong, as he appeared in their 2013 film “The Butler“.
According to a report in Variety, McRae will appear in three episodes of “Empire” Season 2 and portray the character of J-Poppa, new love interest of Gabourey Sidibe (Becky).
The character will also develop a strong connection with Lyon’s son Andre (Trai Byers) during his time on the show.
McRae is now a series regular on TNT’s “Murder in the First”, and had a major recurring role in “Sons of Anarchy”.
The first season ended with the arrest of Lucious for murder.
But Sidibe’s blossoming love life is not the only thing happening in season 2. He added that this new series will be about the young Cookie Lyon. The show’s finale garnered a total of 16.7 million viewers with a 6.5 rating.
This comes as no surprise as lead stars Howard and Taraji P. Henson continue to impress and get the fans hooked with their fantastic performance.
The guest-star-studded second season of “Empire” returns to Fox on September 22.
