Man in court over one-punch attack on Cork man Jason Cierans
The man, who has been named as Jason Cierans, is originally from Cork and was seriously injured in the incident at Bondi Junction in the Australian city.
Mr Cierans suffered a serious head injury, causing a swelling of the brain.
Argentinian Adrian Gabriel Martinez appeared in court in Sydney on Sunday charged with recklessly causing grievous bodily harm.
The Sydney News have described Cierans’ situation as very serious and have reported that he’s now fighting for his life.
Footage from the scene shown on local television shows Mr Cierans being treated by paramedics.
A second man has been charged over a brawl that has left a Sydney man in a coma. It understood he has been in Australia since 2012 and works in construction.
‘I don’t know, my friend just walked and this guy punched him – and that’s it, ‘ said a witness to reporters at the scene. Mr Cierans had been in the bar with friends.
Security guards found one of the alleged attackers nearby and detained him until police arrived.
While the 27-year-old has been granted bail and will face Waverley Local Court on September 24 charged with affray. Martinez will return to court on Thursday.
