Bus crashes into apartment building
The Resorts World Casino bus smashed into the corner of the property at Woodhaven Boulevard in Rego Park, Queens about 2pm Monday (4am Tuesday AEST), NBC New York reported.
The unidentified driver was reportedly pinned underneath the bus, and was taken to New York Hospital in critical condition.
All of the injuries came from those inside the bus, according to police.
Firefighters were on the scene giving aid to at least two people outside the bus, as well as trying to make their way in to help those still inside the bus.
Eight of the injured were believed to have been on board, the other in the building.
It wasn’t immediately clear whether homes or offices were in the building that was hit; a sign for law offices was seen on part of the structure, which is listed online as being a multi-family home. DNAInfo reports that the Department of Buildings has already been called in to assess the building’s stability.
Resorts World Casino, based in Queens, bills itself as the most successful racetrack casino in the world, and it offers a free shuttle bus service at several pickup locations around the five boroughs.
