Lakers ‘seriously considering’ signing Metta World Peace, according to report
Formerly known as Ron Artest, World Peace has enjoyed a decorated National Basketball Association career that includes being named the NBA’s defensive players of the year, an all-star and an All-NBA third team member in 2004 while with the Indiana Pacers, in addition to capturing an National Basketball Association championship as a Laker. A report from Yahoo!
League sources have stated that representatives from both the Lakers and World Peace have been in talks about bringing in the forward back for a one-year deal.
World Peace has been working out in the Lakers’ practice facility this offseason against several of the team’s players, including 2014 first round draft pick Julius Randle, according to Wojnarowski.
Kobe Bryant will be gunning for shots in what may be his last season, “Swaggy P” is a real thing, and D’Angelo Russell will be asked to lead the team as a 19-year old point guard. Before that, though, he played four strong seasons for the Los Angeles Lakers.
With a lack of depth at small forward, the Lakers could really use someone with good defensive capabilities coming off the bench. World Peace has been traveling around the world to find a place to play. He started 270 regular season games, as well as 41 postseason games. He played last season in China and Italy. He played all those games beside Kobe Bryant int he starting rotation.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, the Lakers front office is “seriously considering” signing Metta World Peace as a free agent. While these could be considered surprising LA Lakers rumors, beneath the surface, it actually makes a lot of sense.
