“Several shots rang out within a hundred yards of about 70 police officers”, said MPD Chief Edward Flynn.

The Facebook murder took place in what was a deadly weekend for another big city, Chicago, where a seven-year-old boy was killed in a shooting.

“They were at the lake and some guys approached them trying to fight them”, said Tariq’s mother, Arifah Akbar, according to PIX11 sister station Fox 6 Now. Emergency responders began performing CPR on the teen and were able to briefly stabilize him, but he later died at Children’s Hospital from his injuries. Tariq’s mother said her oldest son is being held in police custody for questioning, and because he’s on probation.

Several police officers resuscitated the victim at the sceene.

“Words can’t express our frustration”, said Flynn in a news conference with reporters.

There were no immediate arrests.

A police statement said preliminary information indicates the victim was among a group of individuals who were feuding with another group on Facebook over a girl.
