Alligator weighs in at 920 pounds
Alligator hunter Scott Evans was at Lake Eufaula with his pals, Justin and Jeff Gregg, when the 920-pound gator was spotted, WBNS 10-TV News said.
It took six men, including two Alabama conservation officers, to pull in and secure the gator.
“It was surreal”, Evans said, according to USA Today.
“We would not have gotten that alligator in the boat had it not been for those two game wardens”, Gregg said. Past year Amanda Stokes and party from Thomaston caught a 15 foot, 1011.5-pound gator from the waters near Millers Ferry on August 16, 2014. And only a half-hour into the hunt, they caught something.
Evans said that the meat of the alligator, which estimates to be around 250 pounds, will not go to waste, and that he is planning a “big Labor Day cookout”.
The 920-pound gator was not a bad catch for Justin during his first time gator hunting with his father. The enormous alligator was weighed at the Dixon Lumber Company in Eufaula. “Based on the reported length and weight, this is the largest known alligator taken off Eufaula”. It is believed to be the biggest alligator legally killed in the state.
“There were 20 alligator permits for Eufaula this year issued a random drawing; hunters must possess a hunting license, their alligator hunting permit, required boating safety equipment and must adhere to all rules and regulations pertaining to size, capture and dispatch of alligators”, Gray said.
The current record holder for the largest alligator ever caught is a 15-foot-9-inch gator that clocked in at 1,011.5 pounds and was captured in Mill Creek, Alabama, according to ABC.
