Six killed in fresh Yobe suicide attack
The second explosion was detonated by a male suicide bomber who was attempting to take a commercial vehicle when the explosion went off, killing just the suicide bomber. “Six people were killed in a golf auto that was about to travel out from the market”, the witness said. “She was also killed”, he said.
A spokesman of the government of Yobe state, whose capital is Damaturu, confirmed the attack but gave a death toll of five.
Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of the Yobe State Police Command, Mr. Toyin Gbadegesin, a DSP, told journalists that six persons were killed in the bomb attacks.
Nigeria’s homegrown Islamic extremist group has used dozens of girls and women in recent suicide bombings in Nigeria and neighboring Chad, Cameroon and Niger, raising fears it is using kidnap victims.
The “Bring Back Our Girls” campaign marks 500 days on Thursday since the girls were captured and is due to meet the country’s new chief of defence staff Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin later on Tuesday.
Gbadegeshin said that three others were in critical condition, while 40 others who sustained various degrees of injury had been evacuated to hospitals in the area.
“It is intolerable that their lives and schooling has been disrupted in this way”.
