Jordy Nelson, Clay Matthews Injury Update — Green Bay
Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson warms up for an NFL preseason football game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Sunday, August 23, 2015, in Pittsburgh.
Nelson was hurt during the Packers’ opening drive in their 24-19 defeat in Pittsburgh. Media outlets report the initial diagnosis that Nelson tore his ACL. The Green Bay Packers are still awaiting for the MRI results for confirmation, Rapoport added.
He quickly jogged/limped off the field and was still on the sideline to congratulate running back Eddie Lacy on his touchdown run four plays later.
Nelson caught a career-high 98 passes in 2014, while making the Pro Bowl for the first time.
That being said, if the Packers deem it something they want to do, it’s not insane to think they’d seek out free agent help to plug the hole that Nelson leaves. “We’ve been out for so long, you get in your mind ‘I wonder if I can still do it.’ So these first two games have been huge for me confidence-wise to get out there and say I could still play at this level”. The 6-foot-3 Jeff Janis, a second-year player, has size but has been inconsistent.
But Rodgers knows that even though it may be a benefit to the players to reduce or eliminate the preseason, (perhaps two games with only backups playing is the answer), it’s about more than just that.
(New York Giants) Jon Beason (Linebacker): Was forced out of the Giant’s 2 preseason game with a sprained left knee.
Nelson, 30, is coming off his best professional season. Rogers said. “I think it’s disappointing that you have injuries like this in the pre-season”.
A Week-2 matchup with the Packers at Lambeau Field stood out as one of the toughest games on the Seahawks’ schedule, especially given the possibility that strong safety Kam Chancellor continues his holdout into the regular season. His injury too appeared to be serious enough to warrant surgery. White didn’t play in Atlanta’s exhibition loss to the Jets on Friday night… “He was cleared for non-contact activity today, ” coach Jay Gruden said…
Manziel leaves practice • Johnny Manziel’s climb has been slowed by a sore elbow.
“That’s a bad path to walk; you start hoping for injuries to other teams”, he said. The Lions activated offensive tackle LaAdrian Waddle (torn ACL) and defensive end Jason Jones (knee) from the physically-unable-to-perform list.
