Hunters kill 920-pound alligator in Alabama
“We weren’t expecting anything that big”.
“It is humbling”, Jeff Gregg said about seeing such an enormous animal- believed to be 60 years old- up close.
“It was surreal”, said Evans.
After wrangling the alligator with treble hooks, they called the game warden to verify that they legally captured the beast. “We took some measurements of its girth, base and around its tail”.
Alabama’s alligator season is a time when eager hunters from all over the state prepare for unpredictable seasons and dream of the big catch. When the reptile was opened up, approximately 115 pounds of the weight was due to a deer found in the alligator’s stomach.
In total, Gregg said it took six people – including two Alabama Conservation Enforcement officers, to pull the creature out of the water.
Gregg said that the croc has been collected for its meat – 230 pounds of it, not including the tendons or tiresome meat – and the cover up will be shown by a taxidermist.
The gator is also the second biggest gator to ever come out of Lake Eufaula at the hands of alligator hunters, reports News Max on August 24.
Evans and his friends were alligator hunting when they caught an alligator that weighed in at a record-breaking 920 pounds.
“Alligators are part of the natural ecosystem of Eufaula and have been for several decades now”, Gray said.
“It won’t go to waste”, Evans told AL.com, declaring that he has some new recipes in mind for a Labor Day cookout.
The hunters hope to display their gargantuan gator at an outdoor store after having it fully mounted.
