Ranieri backs Leicester’s Vardy for England call up
I’m trying to help him become the complete player.
It’s no surprise that Ranieri is reluctant to even consider parting with the 24-year-old, considering Mahrez is now top of the Premier League’s scoring charts and Leicester sit in second place in the early stages of the season.
“Riyad Mahrez is worth nothing because we don’t sell him”, Ranieri told a news conference ahead of Tuesday’s League Cup tie at League One (third tier) club Bury.
The former Napoli midfielder will start at Gigg Lane after coming off the bench in the Foxes’ 1-1 draw with Tottenham in the Barclays Premier League.
The player has also been ordered to attend a diversity awareness course, and in the event that Vardy receives another global call up, he will be informed he has breached the Football Association’s code of conduct for England players and warned about his future behaviour.
One thing that can be expected for the game through is rotation as Ranieri gives others the opportunity to shine who have few match minutes so far in the league.
“Three times I chose the same line-up but, behind this, there are some people that deserve to start from the beginning”. I have a very good squad.
“I said that to them before the game (at Crewe), do yourself justice and you will get picked in that team.
I show my players what is not good and they understand what the fault is”, said Ranieri.
Striker Jamie Vardy has won a single England cap against the Republic of Ireland in June while uncapped Marc Albrighton has three assists and a goal to his name already this season. “I speak with my chairman and I want them, he wants them, so no-one is going away from Leicester. We are building a very good team”.
“Roy has too many players to watch”.
“We don’t sell him so there is no price”, the Italian is quoted as saying by Sky Sports.
