FOUND: 10-year-old boy missing in high Uintas has been found alive, safe
A 10-year-old boy missing in the Uinta Mountains for almost 30 hours has been found alive, reports CBS affiliate KUTV.
A Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter and ATVs were used to search the rugged area, along with search crews from the Uintah County and Wasatch County sheriff’s offices as well as the Ute Indian Tribe.
Bradley appeared in good spirits but was cold and hungry when he was reunited with his family.
“We’re hoping he had something in the pack that could help him through the night”, Norton said.
“They were doing all the things you’d want them to do if you were lost”, she said.
Mom is just happy she has a happy story to tell.
Norton thanked the more than 100 search and rescue workers as well as the plane and helicopter that combed the rocky terrain, searching for signs of motion and calling out over a loudspeaker.
Malachi went missing Sunday morning, after he hiked to Paul Lake with his brother, his sister, his father and his father’s friend, Norton said. After a half an hour of no return, Bradley’s father left the campground in Ashley National Forest to call 911, according to the AP.
Malachi Bradley was found Monday morning after spending the night alone in the Utah wilderness.
Uintah County Sheriff Vance Norton said that the boy’s dad had told his son what to do if he got lost.
Paul Lake is near the top of a mountain, at an elevation of almost 10,000 feet, though the terrain around the lake is relatively flat.
It is easy to get misplaced within the space, and sudden modifications in climate may be harmful, Kevin Bardsley stated.
Instead of panicking when he was separated from his family in the High Uintas, 10-year-old Malachi Bradley immediately began trying to keep himself fed, hydrated and close to a fire.
Monday morning he said he was determined to find his way out. “I’ve had grown males sit down for lunch, get up and say they knew which method they have been going to the automotive, seemed down on the Global Positioning System and realized they might have been going utterly the fallacious path”.
