Afghanistan Gas Explosions: 11 Dead, Including 10 Children, After Series Of
A spokesman for Herat Regional Hospital said that another 18 people were injured in the blasts.
A massive fire has reportedly swept through gas terminal in Herat city in western part of the country earlier tonight, leaving at least eleven people dead.
Herat lies near Afghanistan’s border with Iran.
A father who lost his nine-year-old daughter in the fire said most of the victims were trying to flee from the massive flames.
A powerful explosion had flung a burning truck into the displacement camp, he reportedly said. Gas explosions are not uncommon in Afghanistan, where bottled gas is used for household cooking.
The fire was preceded by a series of loud explosions at the gas terminal.
It was unclear whether the explosions were a result of an accident or an attack.
On Saturday, at least 12 people including three US civilian contractors were killed in an attack on a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation convoy in Kabul.
