Pettine: McCown OK, nothing changed with Browns QB situation
August 20, 2015; Cleveland, OH, USA; Buffalo Bills quarterback Tyrod Taylor (5) runs the ball during the second quarter of a preseason game against the Cleveland Browns at FirstEnergy Stadium.
Manziel said he’s happy to be on the field and he’ll leave the number of snaps up to Pettine.
Vegas betting expert Steve Fezzik doesn’t expect the bad situation in Oakland to get much better this season. Would I like to be in there with the ones? “But that’s not my call, and if that decision does come, hey, I’ll be ready to hop in there”.
In the fourth quarter, tied at 3, Manziel orchestrated an 11 play, 96-yard drive, capped off with a 21-yard touchdown throw to Glenville native to Shane Wynn.
Manziel went full Johnny Football, with wild throws and highlight plays. I thought he made some good plays.
With his workload and talent, along with the motivation of being shipped off by Kelly, I expected McCoy to still remain a Top 10 Fantasy running back and worthy of consideration toward the end of Round 1 or beginning of Round 2 in all leagues.
McCown added, “It was awesome”. He delivered some very nice touch passes, including a handsome 22 yarder along the sidelines to Deonte Thompson on a third down, showing great awareness as he stepped up in the pocket. “They did a good job of coming in and playing well. It was awesome”. After the game, this is how Manziel responded when asked about challenging for the starting spot. “It’s like watching somebody in the backyard in the ‘Turkey Bowl.’ He’s always had a big fan base because of how he plays the game”. His throws were questionable all night, and his reads were spotty at times.
Manziel’s 36-yard touchdown drive was aided by a fumbled punt return that the Browns recovered. “We’ll evaluate both guys”.
“I worry about things that I have control over”, Pettine said.
“Right now, we have three quarterbacks who can play”, Ryan said. “For the most part, I was proud of a lot of those guys that were out there with me, for sure”.
It was a good enough performance that Manziel had himself trending on Twitter Thursday night despite it being the 2nd half of a preseason football game featuring the Bills and Browns. With coach Rex Ryan saying he won’t declare a starter until Week One of the regular season, the quarterback competition goes on. “That’s what I want to do”.
“We did some good things”. “I think Josh has done everything right since the day he’s been here”. Excluding those seasons as outliers, he is only 13-28 as a starter, which is obviously not good. “There’s a couple of things we did out there that we can learn from”. I wouldn’t say putting heat on.
