Post-mortem to be carried out today on the body of Conall Kerrigan
Just before his body was discovered an appeal for information was launched through the “Missing People Northern Ireland” Facebook page.
While police are still treating the death as “unexplained”, it is understood they are investigating the possibility that Mr Kerrigan fell from Derry’s walls in a tragic accident while on a night out with club mates.
PSNI Detective Sergeant Brian Reid said: “A post mortem examination is due to be carried out on Tuesday 25th August to determine the cause of Conall’s death”.
“He was in the company of a couple around his own age”. The Kerrigans have been at the heart of Claudy GAA for years.
His body was not found until around 10pm on Sunday night.
“I would encourage anyone with any information about the circumstances surrounding Conall’s death to please come forward and assist in piecing together his final movements so his family can find some explanation for what may have happened”.
The club chairman said Conall’s death was very personal to the village and the GAA community.
After Conall failed to return home, members of Claudy John Mitchel’s GAA club mounted a search for him and travelling to the city centre discovered his body close to where he was last seen alive. A postmortem is today to be carried out on 25-year-old Conall Kerrigan who has been described as a “huge character”.
Aaron also said Conall was “a true gentleman” who “wouldn’t have brought any harm to anyone”.
The Mayor Elisha McCallion extended her deepest sympathies to Conall’s family. He trained, he played, he volunteered, and, he socialised as a member of our Club right through from the earliest underage to our current senior panel. My thoughts and prayers are with them at this very hard time.
