NSA-level Meeting: Ajit Doval Agarwal vs Digital Media of Pakistan
The Congress on Sunday accused the Modi government of being unprepared and lacking in focus which led to Pakistan “wriggling out” of the National Security Adviser (NSA) talks.
“All the gains of last ten years on Indo-Pak settlement of at least some issues has been given a setback by such aborted (NSA) talks“. With Pakistan’s insistence on including Kashmir in the talks and India looking to stick to the Ufa statement verbatim, the political impasse is starkly clear.
The opposition party also said the vicissitudes of Indian domestic policy should not have been allowed to make a mockery of India’s status in the world.
A statement issued by Pakistan Foreign Office said the proposed talks will not serve any objective if conducted on the basis of what it called preconditions laid down by India. Singhivi further raised the question as to who is actually involved in foreign policy decision-making.
But the divergence of talking points was one of the main stumbling blocks: Indian official sources had said they wanted to provide proof that militants were getting support from over its western border, while Pakistan wanted the talks to be broader and include issues on Kashmir. “We condemn it”, the Congress leader said, adding that Pakistan is clearly using the refuge of technicalities to avoid talk on terror.
