Ajax keeper Jasper Cillessen rules out Old
Manchester United’s hopes of snapping up Jasper Cillessen have taken a hit with the goalkeeper having confessed that he’s expecting to stay at Ajax.
Hugo Lloris has been considered as another potential replacement for De Gea should he leave United, though as it appears at the moment the 24-year-old could end up seeing out his contract at Old Trafford. “As for me, this season begins and ends at Ajax”, he said.
United continue to search for a new goalkeeper as David de Gea is still being linked with a move to Real Madrid and is now said to be unwilling to play for the Red Devils (via BBC Sport).
But with just eight days of the window;eft, Ajax are growing increasingly confident of holding on to their goalkeeper, with Cillessen himself insisting he will remain at the club this season.
26-year-old Cillessen was a part of van Gaal’s Dutch World Cup squad in 2014, who went on to finish third in the competition after a semi-final exit to Argentina. The 44-year-old is also keen to make sure the United boss doesn’t get an easy way out of the situation, by keeping Jasper Cillessen at Ajax.
“It is obvious there is a lot more going on in the background”, Van der Sar told the Mirror. There is still a possibility that Los Blancos could complete the move for De Gea, but United are standing firm with their financial demands for the Spaniard.
Manager Frank de Boer was less strident, insisting that although he believes he will keep Cillessen, he can not be certain yet.
