Joe Rogan says Ronda Rousey-Holly Holm fight is not ‘smart’
“That Holly Holm fight, I don’t think that’s smart”.
Holm was shooting her new movie “Fight Valley: Knockaround Girls” when we asked if she was going to go the Bethe Correia route… and try to get in Ronda’s head by spewing venom before they step in the octagon in January.
Miesha Tate was declared the #1 contender for Ronda Rousey’s UFC bantameweight title last month after she defeated Jessica Eye. Rousey is a -1450 (14.5-to-11) favorite to Holm’s +900 underdog line, according to BestFightOdds. On both their previous tiffs, Tate lost to Rousey; although Tate has so far been the toughest opponent faced by the champion.
“It’s a much more competitive fight than people would say”. At the end of the day, though, Rogan admitted neither Holm nor Nunes likely would be able to close the vast gulf between Rousey and everyone else. White gave her some sort of consolation by matching her up against Amanda Nunes as one of the undercards for the 2016 match.
Tate is the choice of many MMA fans – if not Cris “Cyborg” Justino – if only because she is just about the only woman who has actually given Rousey a fight.
One voice that has been highly critical of the Holm-Rousey pairinig is none other than UFC announcer and stand-up comic Joe Rogan. Amanda Nunes looked like a badass when she knocked out Sara McMann.
Mike Dolce said Tate deserved another crack at Rousey ahead of Holm.
‘That’s a more unsafe fighter, ‘ Rogan added, ‘A more marketable fighter.
Rogan likened the undefeated Rousey to Tyson in his early, dominant days on the heavyweight boxing scene.
“Definitely my biggest challenge to date, so I’m super excited about it”, Rousey said of Holm. Who knows, though? You never know.
Granted, it was only her second win in a row, but she is 4-1 overall in the UFC, and her lone defeat came at the hands of top-ranked Cat Zingano.
Holm also had an incredible boxing career, complete with a 33-2-3 record, but it wasn’t without its hiccups, especially a shockingly violent and one-sided knockout loss to Anne Sophie Mathis in December 2011.
Considering Rousey’s last three title defenses have all ended in under a minute, it’s clear the “rush her” strategy simply isn’t working. “I don’t agree with that fight”, he said.
